The Pitsco 51706 Balsa Wood BridgePak Kit provides students in grades 6-12 a hands-on activity to design and build a model bridge that demonstrates scientific concepts of engineering, structural forces, and geometry, and includes balsa wood strips, glue, and grid paper. The kit includes 1/8 x 1/8 x 24 inch balsa wood strips for construction. Balsa wood is lightweight, easy to cut, and comes in a variety of densities for building model structures. The BridgePak Kit also includes green Pitsco Structures Glue and empty individual glue bottles with caps, 1/8-inch grid sheets, and The Pitsco Bridge Book. A resource for both students and teachers, The Pitsco Bridge Book by Dave Boyt is 22 pages long and describes the history of bridges, types of bridge designs and trusses, how to build and test a model bridge, and it includes competition rules and drawings. A model bridge kit is typically used in an educational setting to demonstrate structural engineering and design.
